If you’re anything like us, you want to have a cup of Motorized Coffee for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We get it. However, scientifically speaking, that’s not the right thing to do. Give us a second to explain before you start throwing rod bearings at us!
Much like Gabe’s Corolla has VVT-I, your body has this stress hormone called cortisol that controls your mood, motivation, and fear. It basically lets you act quickly when needed and controls your fight or flight response as well. According to a study, cortisol has “high levels in the morning that peak 30–45 minutes after waking, dropping rapidly for the next several hours and declining slowly throughout the rest of the day, until a low point of around midnight.” In short, cortisol levels are high in the morning, highest 30-45 minutes after you wake up, and drop to their lowest around midnight.
If you drink your coffee immediately after you wake up, the caffeine can mix with the cortisol and make you more agitated or stressed than you probably want to be. What’s worse is that high levels of cortisol for a long period of time can affect your immune system and that can’t just be bought from O’Reilly’s. That all brings the best time to drink your coffee to around 10:00 a.m. and noon. If you want to make even more sure that you’re staying healthy while enjoying your fresh, hot cup of Joe, you can check out our other blog about the various benefits that caffeine has on your well-being!
Of course, much like our different roasts are suited for different taste buds, people can have different cortisol levels too. Your best bet is to test it out and see what effect drinking coffee has on your body. This is a great time to do it too as new members can get their first bag of coffee for only $5! Don’t forget about our handy-dandy Coffee Quiz to ensure that the roast you get is the right one for your taste buds. It’s like those 30-way power seat adjustments except it doesn’t take anywhere near as long to find that perfect fit.
